Creating caricatures from events in the news

Not too long ago I was experimenting in creating caricatures by using personalities or events in the news. I also wanted to add a diolog quoted from the individual's own statements. To simplify the process of making layout sketches for each of the main subjects, I used what I knew as an artist and some very basic computer programs to make several experimental vignettes by first chousing a politically charged photograph and then manipulate it digitally.
The intent of the exercise was to create a quick depiction, of known personalities within related current events, in caricature, yet easily identifiable by the contemporary public.

The result is seen in the above sample and its fair to say that many of you can do the same in one form or another. Like everything else, we as innovative humans, should be able to accomplish these similar results with the proper tools after perhaps, a few false starts. For the most part, the programs I have used are also available as free downloads to use until you decide which one will work best for your needs. Not being able to draw is no longer a factor because a phonograph, will be the basis of your caricature which is later finalized with a digital sketching program or plug-in. All you will need is the inspiration to begin and then give it a try.
Contrary to popular belief, artists do not make mistakes; they simply start anew in order to improve his or her creation.
Create caricatures from your original photographs by depicting any person in which distinguishing characteristics are exaggerated for comic or grotesque effect. Have fun while doing it . . . Now that’s magic!
