CIVILWAR SUBMARINE H. L. HUNLEY  (1863-1864)

The Confederate States secret weapon, Submarine H.L. Hunley, recovered.
The Hunley was the secret weapon of the Confederacy and the world's first submarine to sink an enemy ship (1863-1864) . It attacked and sank the Union warship, the USS Housatonic, on the night of Feb. 17, 1864, and then disappeared. The submarine was later found several miles off Charleston, S.C., in the 1990s and recovered in 2000.
The submarine H.L. Hunley, a small, hand-powered submarine, was privately built in Mobile, Alabama, in 1863, based on plans furnished by Horace Lawson Hunley, James R. McClintock and Baxter Watson.

After the H.L. Hunley submarine received a series of failed tests and with a third crew, the submarine was ordered . . .

IN MEMORIAM: U.S. Senator George S. McGovern, 1922-2012

   It is with sadness and rancor that I update the Embroiled News with this report about a great American who has recently passed, to perhaps a better world than ours.
   George McGovern was part of an era when we whole heartedly believed that we could change the world. It was when most of us were young and naive about world affairs and easily persuaded to join a cause that best served our interests. I personally know these facts, because in my youth, I was one of those, who became swept in the many movements of the day and eventually faced the reality of the existing state of affairs . . .
   . . .McGovern appealed for support with the strongest and most emotional language he had ever used regarding the war:

       "Every senator in this chamber is partly responsible for sending *50,000 young Americans to an early grave. This chamber reeks of
blood. Every Senator here is partly responsible for that human wreckage at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval and all across our land — young men without legs, or arms, or genitals, or faces or hopes.
       There are not very many of these blasted and broken boys who think this war is a glorious adventure. Do not talk to them about
bugging out, or national honor or courage. It does not take any courage at all for a congressman, or a senator, or a president to wrap himself in the flag . . .

Was Christopher Columbus secretly a Jew?

       This is a perennial story that begs to question if Christopher Columbus was a Jew, when faced with the evidence described in the following informative account.

      Notably, May 20, 2012 marked the 508th anniversary of the death of Christopher Columbus. He was an explorer, colonizer, and navigator, born in the Republic of Genoa, in what is today northwestern Italy. Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that led to general European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere.
       The rest of Christopher Columbus life and saga have been analyzed, recorded, glorified, scrutinized and vilified into numerous versions during the last five hundred plus years since Old Chris died penniless in a Spanish jail – or so we are still lead to believe. Needless to mention it now – but I will – in our modern world since the advent of computers, owned by nearly half the population of the world, there are few historical secrets that are not being discovered daily for the general public to digest and speculate that historic events, have a way to resurface like  perennial flowers and bloom when we least expect them.
       The Christopher Columbus, the maritime hero I had learned about in my grammar school history class, is today viewed as an entirely different historical person.       Normally I wouldn’t make a fuss, but in this case the subject in the panting happens to be that of a young mother exposing her breast, the left mammary gland to be exact, while feeding her child. Please don’t misunderstand me when I say that as an art critic I’m very comfortable seeing nude bodies and otherwise sexual body parts, and as a professional in my field, I am sure this painting shouldn’t offend anyone who is open minded.

      . . . The Bellamy salute was first demonstrated on October 12, 1892 according to Bellamy's published instructions for the "National School Celebration of Columbus Day." Pupil, in ordered ranks, hands to the side, faced the Flag; a signal was then given and every pupil gave the flag the military salute -- right hand lifted, palm downward, in line with the forehead and close to it. Standing thus, all repeat together, slowly, the pledge allegiance to the Flag and Republic.
            The initial civilian salute was replaced with a hand-on-heart gesture, but again followed by the extension of the arm as described earlier by Bellamy.
             In the 1920s, Italian fascists adopted the Roman salute to symbolize their claim to have revitalized Italy on the model of ancient Rome. This symbol of the raised right arm was quickly copied by the German Nazis . . . >> READ MORE
